Turmeric root is a lovely addition to a juice because of it’s amazing colour and possible health benefits. The scientific evidence surrounding turmeric is a bit conflicting though. Many studies have been done in-vitro and in animals, so it is unclear whether humans would see the same health claims. What has been seen in human studies though is a benefit in digestion – by helping to releive bloating, as well as helping those suffering with ulceratice colitis had a slower relapse rate than those taking the placebo. There is a possible link to the reduction of heart atherosclerosis (a build up of plaque in the arteries), however it won’t un-do a bad diet!

As with any root you need to make sure you wash it really well before juicing it, even if it is organic, there can be bacteria in soil that can cause a nasty upset stomach .

It is important to note that turmeric can have some interactions with certain medications such as: blood thinners, diabetic medications and medications that reduce stomach acid. It is also not recommended for those who suffer from reflux, and should not be taken 2 weeks prior to an elective surgery, so please discuss with your doctor.

  • 1.5g Turmeric root
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 small apple
  • 5 celery stalks
  • 5 carrots

Method

Makes 1 juice

  1. Wash all fruit and vegetables very well.
  2. Core the apple.
  3. Juice everything and enjoy!
